AUCTIONEER STRENGTHENS VALUATION TEAM
Local man returns to Ewbank from London saleroom
After a year of unprecedented growth in which turnover more than
doubled to £2.5 million, fine art auctioneers Ewbank have
strengthened their team of specialist valuers with the appointment
of Andrew Delve, a local man who is no stranger to the Surrey
saleroom.
Mr Delve worked at Ewbank for four years from 2002 before
leaving to gain experience with the London auctioneers Rosebery’s.
Prior to that, he was a customer support executive with Internet
auction portal iCollector.
He was educated at Friends’ School, Saffron Walden and
the University of St Andrews, where he gained an M.A. (Hons) degree
before entering the auction business as a porter with one of the
big three London salerooms.
He quickly rose through the ranks there to become a cataloguer
and administrator in the collectors’ department and subsequently
with the wine and sporting departments. In this latter role he
was heavily involved with the sale of the archive of memorabilia
collected by boxing commentator Harry Carpenter.
Mr Delve said: “I am delighted to be returning to work
with former colleagues and clients at Ewbank. Working in the London
salerooms enabled me to broaden my experience of the business,
which is now so different to when I started out as a porter. Now,
with the Internet and email, every auction room has an international
reach and it is great to get back to my roots.”
With his Internet experience, one of Mr Delve’s first tasks
will be to assist with Ewbank’s newly-introduced free email
valuation service. His specialist knowledge, notably of ceramics
and glass and collectors’ items, will also be invaluable
at the saleroom’s regular Monday morning valuation sessions,
which were also introduced this month.
He can be contacted at the saleroom on 01483 223101 or by email
at antiques@ewbankauctions.co.uk, which should also be used for
email valuations.
