Clocks and Barometers

The making of English clocks and barometers has progressed since the 17th century with a continual search for improvement in accuracy particularly in the area of marine chronometers.

The result is that you will find good clocks in all of our main auctions and there are collectors always seeking the rare and the unusual like the clock illustrated above by Richard Glynne London which was made in about 1720. Its rare features included the eccentric chapter ring, which helped it to achieve our highest price for a clock of £26,000. In the UK clocks are exempt from capital gains tax which, at higher values, makes them a very attractive tax free investment..
