Retro Toys And Model Trains On Sale At Ewbank's

Mecano, Dinky, Corgi, Matchbox Toys And More Under The Hammer On June 1 

 

If your loft is crammed full of boxes of toys, this could be the ideal time to sort through them as Ewbank’s, Surrey’s leading auctionhouse, is preparing for its ‘Toys and Models’ sale on June 1.

 

Well-known and loved retro toys from brands including Mecano, Hornby, Dinky, Corgi and Matchbox have already been consigned for sale, however there is still time to have your items valued and entered for the auction. The deadline to consign lots is May 25.

 

One of the more valuable lots already catalogued for the sale is an collection of around 80 toy soldiers from various makers, which carries a pre-sale estimate of between £200 and £300. It includes 37 ‘Trooper Skinners Horse 1901’ painted figures by Tradition Of London, plus 18 Bengal lancers, and six painted Punjab frontier force 1890 figures.Toy Auction

 

A set of boxed Royal horseguards toy soldiers has been valued at between £100 and £200.

 

Also just consigned is a fantastic collection of model steam trains and scratch built model trains, from a single owner whos father was a avid collector and train enthusiast. The full catalogue will be published online, fully illustrated by Friday 19 May.

 

An array of Meccano has been valued between £100 and £200. It includes a model of a Croydon / Purley tram, with a label advertising ‘Billy Graham at the Empire Stadium, Wembley’ plus a large quantity of boxed and unboxed Meccano including 3A, 4 and 5A and 6 with instruction manuals.

 

Railway fans will be delighted by a Tri-ang Hornby ‘Princess Elizabeth’ locomotive and tender with red livery, in its original box, which has been valued at between £100 and £200. The lot includes a Hornby ‘City of Edinburgh’ locomotive and tender, and two others.

 

Another Hornby lot already consigned for sale features a GWR Loco Albert Hall R759, in its box, and a BR diesel electric R072 in green, also boxed, a 00 gauge operating mail coach set R401, and a large station. A large number of toy cars from brands including Corgi, Dinky and Matchbox have been catalogued for sale. These include a Corgi Toys gift set of the Lotus Racing Team, in original box, comprising four cars and a breakdown truck, 17 cones, leaflet and stickers. It has been valued at between £150 and £250.

 

A collection of more than 35 Lesney Matchbox 75 Series boxed cars has been valued at between £200 and £300.
