Dinky, Corgi and Meccano amongst many lots on sale

Vintage Toy AuctioneersIf you’re stuck for what to buy the youngsters, or young-at-heart, for Christmas, then the vintage toy auction at Ewbank’s Surrey’s leading auction-house, on December 14, might be the answer.

With many well-known brands such as Dinky, Corgi and Meccano, as well as more unusual lots, the toy sale is a treasure trove of Christmas gift ideas.

For the steam enthusiast or budding engineer, a scratch-built model of an 1850s steamer engine is sure to be of interest. It is mounted on board and comes with electric engine. The team at Ewbank’s has put a pre-sale guide price of between £400 and £600 for this one-off piece.
 
Wannabe astronauts will love a vintage Japanese tinplate NASA Spacestation toy, which has been valued at between £200 and £300. Made by S.H. Horikawa, it is in its original box and comes with a battery-driven motor.

Toy Car AuctionsAmong many vintage Dinky cars going under the hammer, is a Dinky die-cast car carrier with trailer, in its original box (super toys no 983), which has been valued at between £100 and £200.

For a little more glamour in the toy car arena, how about James Bond’s Aston Martin? A boxed Corgi Toys’ 261 'James Bond 'Aston Martin DB5', with gold paint-work, which with an envelope containing 'Secret Instructions,’ has a pre-sale estimate of between £60 and £100.
 
Meccano is one of the most popular toy brands which come through the sale-room, and is always a hit with buyers. In this sale, a Meccano tri-plane with box and a leaflet, is going under the hammer with an estimate of between £60 and £100.

Model Plane AuctionFor those who want to take to the sky, without the need for expensive flight school, a radio-controlled plane, or two, could be just the ticket! Two radio-controlled petrol aeroplanes with a Sanwa Conquest Mk.II remote control, and a box of sundry accessories, have been valued at between £60 and £100.

Well-known and loved toy manufacturer Marklin is another popular bran to keep an eye out for at auction. Ewbank’s has a Marklin 16121 carousel, on sale, with a pre-sale estimate of between £150 and £250. It is a limited edition reproduction of the 1908 Marklin 8847 carousel. The intricate model has manual crank mechanism to activate music box and turn the superstructure. It has one horse, four gondolas and four figures onboard.
 
Alongside model cars, dolls are one of the biggest groups of toys in the auction. highlights include a late 19th / early 20th century wooden doll, with painted face, hands and feet, and wearing a dress. It measures 38cm and has a value of between £50 and £80.

Being sold as one lot are three dolls, including an Armand Marseille 518 doll with open mouth, and a Simon & Halbig doll 126 with open mouth, alongside another ungraded one. The three are being sold with an estimate of between £80 and £120.
